Happy 50th Birthday Lake Ozark!
Even though it seems to be much older, the city of Lake Ozark is turning 50 this month! This will be celebrated with all kinds of fun events and activities happening on the historic Bagnell Dam Strip, right up the road from your favorite seafood & steak restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks.
JB Hook's is a popular fixture with both local residents and visitors to Lake Ozark, MO. While the town has been around in theory longer than 50 years, Lake Ozark officially became a fourth-class city in Missouri in August of 1966. Prior to that, it was referenced by a few different names until the United States Post Office gave it the name.
Friday
The weekend celebration will kick off at 6 pm with the award-winning Hot Summer Nights. This month's theme is "Since '66 - 50 Years of Cruising the Strip." It will include all of the regular Hot Summer Nights fun, plus '60's music blasting over the speakers and a dunk tank featuring local celebrities.
Saturday
The excitement begins again bright and early on Saturday morning at 9 am with a public reception at Lake Ozark City Hall. You are invited for refreshments and to view the contents of the time capsule to be buried until the year 2066.
Starting at 11 am, there will be live music taking place all up and down the strip in various locations. You can also witness dance demonstrations, an Elvis impersonator, and take part in a dance party and contests. Some of the businesses along the strip will even be offering 1960's prices on select items.
The celebration will end with an impressive fireworks display over the lake at Bagnell Dam. The Celebration II will be cruising out on the water during the fireworks.
You can even try to win the $100 prize in the "Celebrating 50 Years Selfie Contest." Take a selfie at one of the designated landmarks in Lake Ozark and use the hashtag #HappyBirthdayLakeOzark. The selfie with the most Facebook likes will be declared the winner. You can find even more details about the entire event at www.VisitBagnellDam.com.
This is always a fun area to explore, but this weekend will be extra-special. Make sure to clear out a spot during all of the excitement to visit our lake view restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. We'll have Happy Hour going on Friday from 3-7 pm, and Michael V. will be performing with his band in the bar area. A perfect pit stop before you head on over to Hot Summer Nights.
JB Hook's will be open on Saturday at 11 am. Join us for lunch before the celebration or come back for dinner before the fireworks start. We'll wish Lake Ozark a great big "Happy Birthday" together.
