The Intriguing History of JB Hook's

January is a time to look ahead to a brand new year full of possibilities. It's also a wonderful time to take a look back at the things that have happened to get you where you are right now. We are very excited about the coming months for our Lake of the Ozarks steak and seafood restaurant, and we decided to take a look back of our own. JB Hook's has a very interesting history.

Name Changes
The JB Hook's that you know today has seen quite a few changes happen all around the lake area, and we've also gone through many changes of our own. When this restaurant opened, it was originally called Captain Hook's. Later, that named was changed to Krazo's.

John LaFata and Bruce Elliott reopened the restaurant under its current name of JB Hook's in February of 1995. Next month we'll be celebrating our 23rd year in business, nearly a quarter of a century!

A Tragic Fire
It was a very exciting time, but unfortunately a few months in, there was a huge problem. Just 3 months after JB Hook's opened up, a fire blazed through the restaurant and destroyed much of the building. We had to miss an entire Lake of the Ozarks summer season to rebuild. Once fall rolled around, though, we were back! The doors reopened again in September of 1995 with a gorgeous new look.

A New Look
This new version of the original building has undergone several architectural changes and additions since that first year. The Sunset Room and lower kitchen just off of the bar area were added, allowing extra room to begin offering a lunch menu.

Our Sunset Room is enclosed within three walls of glass, offering an uninterrupted and truly breathtaking view of the gorgeous lake. The fourth wall contains an abalone-tiled fireplace. Today this wonderful room is used to serve lunch and appetizers, and it is also available to rent for group functions and private events.

There was once a dock with a tram leading to our Lake of the Ozarks lake view restaurant so that guests could reach us by water. Due to the major growth that the lake has gone through over the years and the increased water traffic, that dock and tram sadly had to be done away with. On the bright side, with the construction of the toll bridge in the late 1990's, Shawnee Bend area residents were once again able to get to us without the long drive.

Still Going Strong
Nowadays, everyone's favorite Lake of the Ozarks fine dining restaurant is open year-round, 7 days a week. We serve lunch from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, dinner beginning at 5:00 pm, and you can enjoy appetizers and the Shrimp and Oyster Bar all day long. During our incredible Happy Hour, we even offer a large menu of half-price appetizers to enjoy along with some great drink specials in the bar area. No matter where you sit - the Sunset Room, piano bar, main dining room, or outdoor patio - that breathtaking 14-mile panoramic view is within sight.

There have been quite a few changes around here over the years, but one thing that will never change at JB Hook's is the exceptional quality of our delicious food and friendly service. Our goal, as always, is to make sure that all of our wonderful guests get the enjoyable dining experience that they deserve.
