National Soup Month was established in 1986 by the well-known soup brand, Campbell’s. The Campbell Soup Company was the first to invent condensed soup in1897 to be sold in cans, but the history of soup goes back much farther.
In ancient times, soup was made by boiling broth with hot stones in clay pots, watertight baskets, or animal hides. Soup is such a long-lasting staple that the word “restaurant” was originally used to describe a kind of soup that was sold by street vendors to restore people’s energy. Eventually, the word “restaurant” came to be used the way it is today to describe all food establishments.
A bowl of soup can help improve your health and keep you healthy in many cases!
We have some great soups to choose from on our lunch menu that can be ordered on their own, or paired with a sandwich or salad. Check them out and pick your favorite!

Soup’s Health Benefits

Weight Loss
Eating soup can help in your weight loss journey if you pick the right kind of soup. Heavy, cream soups are not great choices for weight loss, but many kinds of soup are actually low in calories and high in fiber. Choose soups that are full of beans, vegetables, and protein to help promote a healthy diet in 2020.Cold & Flu Symptoms
Sipping on chicken noodle soup is a comforting habit when you’re suffering from a cold or the flu. When you have the chills, hot soup helps warm you from the inside. The high liquid content is also very soothing since it can help thin the mucus in your sinuses and free up your airways. The extra vitamins and minerals from the vegetables and broth can also help your body fight infection so you can get better faster.Celebrate at JB Hook’s!
