October Fun at the Lake of the Ozarks

There is a glorious chill in the air, and our gorgeous lake area scenery will soon be turning from lush green to a rainbow of fall colors. In addition to the spectacular scenery that surrounds us, there are lots of fun events and activities going on for area residents and autumn lake visitors to enjoy. 


JB Hook's has gathered a few of these together for you in today's blog. Each one is located only a short trip away from your favorite Lake of the Ozarks seafood restaurant, so you'll be able to join us after the excitement and tell us all about it!

Pumpkin Patches
All throughout the month of October, you can visit these local pumpkin patches, have a little fun, and pick up some seasonal decor to take home.

  • MECCCA Family Farm - Open Saturdays & Sundays in October from 10 am - 5 pm, they offer family fun activities. Find them at: www.MECCAFarm.com
  • Cave Pumpkin Patch - Open Saturdays & Sundays in October, you can find out more about them on their Facebook page. 
  • Hy-Vee Pumpkin Patch - Open daily during regular store hours in Osage Beach, with family-fun activities taking place on Saturdays & Sundays from 10 am - 6 pm.  

Zombie Wasteland Haunted House
Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 8-29
This Halloween event will take place 3 nights every week in October starting this Saturday. The cost is $10 per person, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Half of all ticket sales will be donated to Kids Harbor. The "wasteland" is located at 1159 N. Business 5 in Camdenton.  

Home, Lifestyle, & Sport Show
Oct. 8 & 9
The Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will host a wide array of vendor booths from local merchants that provide products and services for your home, sporting activities, and lifestyles necessities. There will also be presentations on the main stage all weekend. It is meant to show how wonderful life here at the lake can be. Show hours are 9 am - 5 pm Saturday, and 10 am - 3 pm Sunday at the Lodge of Four Seasons. For more information, visit: www.LakeAreaChamber.com.   

Totes For TaTas
Oct. 11
This annual event is held in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raises money to benefit the Lake Regional Cancer Center's Hope Program. Both live and silent auctions are held for new and gently used purses, totes, and wallets. The $20 admission fee includes a bid number, drink tickets, and appetizers. It takes place at the Inn at Grand Glaize in Osage Beach from 5-8 pm. 

Apple Butter Days
Oct. 14 & 15
This fun fall festival at the Camden County Museum in Linn Creek is open from 9 am - 5 pm each day. You will experience home made apple butter, local crafters, free museum tours, Civil War Era history, old-time craft demonstrations, delicious food, and more. Pumkin Chunkin Palooza
Oct. 15
This fall festival presents hourly "pumkin chunkin" exhibitions, where pumpkins are flung far and wide from a catapult. There is also a Largest Pumpkin contest, Best Decorated Pumpkin contest, a 5K Run/Walk, live music, vendor booths, beer and wine tastings, kids' activities, and more. It is located at the Ozarks Amphitheater in Camdenton, and is open from 11 am - 6 pm. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for kids 5-12, free for kids under 5, or you can purchase a family pass for $20. The 4 lake area Rotary Clubs will use the proceeds to benefit Kids Harbor, Westlake Aquatic Center, Lake Area Food Pantries, and Lake Regional Hospital. Howl-O-Ween Festival
Oct. 15
The Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach hosts this event for both 2-legged and 4-legged attendees from 10 am - 3 pm. It will feature local crafters and vendors, a bake sale, a pet costume parade, tricks for treats, and tons of fun. For more information, visit: www.DASLakeOfTheOzarks.com.    


St. Louis Osuwa Taiko Drummers
Oct. 15
This team of Japanese drummers perform a high energy show that integrates traditional Japanese instruments with jazz, dance, and athleticism. The show begins at 7 pm at School of the Osage Cummings Auditorium. There will be an interactive workshop with audience members following the performance. CADV Brunch
Oct. 19
The Center Against Domestic Violence hosts this incredible fundraiser every year to raise funds and raise awareness about domestic violence. Local restaurants donate the food, and JB Hook's is very proud to be one of these restaurants. Volunteers decorate tables for the brunch in the theme provided. This year's theme is "Favorite Decade." Table sponsorships are available, and individual tickets are $20 each. It takes place from 11 am - 1 pm at the Lodge of Four Seasons. For more information, visit: www.cadv-voc.org.  

Halloween Trick or Treat on the Strip
Oct. 22
Just up the road from JB Hook's, the historic Bagnell Dam Strip will host trick-or-treating at participating local businesses along the strip from 1 pm - 4 pm. There will be costume contests for both children and adults. For more information, visit: www.VisitBagnellDam.com

Lake Regional Cares For Kids Festival
Oct. 22
From 10 am - 1 pm, Lot B of Lake Regional Hospital will offer great activities for families to enjoy. These include: a free hot dog lunch from 11 am - 1 pm, emergency vehicle tours, car seat safety checks, face painting, pumpkin painting, games, crafts, inflatables, a hay maze, a costume contest, and more. The first 200 kids to arrive will get a free Lake Regional Cares for Kids t-shirt. For more information, visit: www.LakeRegional.com

Hy-Vee Hallow Trick-or-Treat Maze
Oct. 27
Hy-Vee's pumpkin patch in Osage Beach offers safe trick-or-treating and family fun from 4-7 pm. Entry is $2 per child, and all money raised will be donated to the Dream Factory and Wonderland Camp.
