How is Whiskey Made?
Whisky can be made from several different kinds of ingredients, including corn, wheat, rye, and barley. These grains are mashed and then fermented. The alcohol is then distilled in its country of origin. The first whiskey was distilled in Ireland. There are several different kinds of whisky and each has a different "proof" which indicates the amount of alcohol content. 100-proof means it has 50% alcohol.
Kinds of Whiskey
The most common kinds of whisky are American, Scotch, Irish, and Canadian. American whisky (like bourbon, rye, and Tennessee) is usually sweet. Scotch whiskey (Scotch) has an earthy flavor. Irish whisky is usually light-bodied with robust flavor. Canadian whiskey is also light-bodied, but has a fruity flavor.
