JB Hook's Received 3 Silver Spoon Awards

We do our very best every day to provide the best seafood and steak at the Lake of the Ozarks, as well as the best customer service to everyone that walks through our doors. Recently, JB Hook's was honored with 3 Silver Spoon Awards for those efforts!

The Lake of the Ozarks Second Home Living Magazine announced the results for their 8th Annual Silver Spoon Awards, and we are very thankful to have been recognized. They give out these awards because, in their own words, "The nation's largest man-made lake abounds with culinary delights! ...they deserve the credit, and you deserve an insider's guide on where to go..." JB Hook's is extremely honored that their editors believe we deserve credit in at least 3 areas: Best Steak & Lobster, Best Seafood, and Best Server - Rick Huntsman. 

Best Seafood Restaurant
We've been receiving rave reviews about our delicious seafood dishes from happy customers for years. Succulent seafood is featured throughout all of our menus for lunch, dinner, and even Happy Hour. We serve both ocean fish and freshwater fish, and there is even an amazing shrimp & oyster bar that you can try. Here are a few of our most popular dishes. 

Catfish & Chips (lunch menu) 
A generous portion of farm-raised catfish served with housemade coleslaw, jalapeno hush puppies, & raspberry chipotle sauce.

Hook's Coconut Shrimp (lunch & dinner menus)
Seven large shrimp encrusted in coconut and deep-fried golden brown, served with Jezebel sauce.

Ahi Tuna Tacos (1/2-price Happy Hour menu)
Fresh tuna spiced and served in a wonton shell with avocado salsa, tai chili sauce, and wasabi cream cheese.

Tilapia Grand Marnier (dinner menu)
Tilapia filet pan-seared and topped with two gulf shrimp, then finished with Grand Marnier reduction.

Alaskan King Crab Legs (dinner menu)
One Pound of King crab legs steamed in spices and served with drawn butter.

Fresh Day Boat Scallops Rockefeller (dinner menu)
Fresh sustainable dayboat scallops lightly dusted in Cajun spices and pan-seared, served over a bed of sauteed spinach, onion, and bacon in a sweet vermouth cream sauce, topped with hollandaise.

Best Steak & Lobster Dinner 
You get the best of both worlds when you order this savory Surf 'N' Turf Dish. It features 1-pound of North Australian lobster tail served with a mouthwatering 6-oz. Filet Mignon, cooked to your liking. 

Best Server - Rick Huntsman 
We are very proud of each and every one of our friendly and talented staff members at JB Hook's. Our staff loves the wonderful customers that frequent our restaurant, as well as meeting the many new faces that come in. Rick Huntsman earned this year's Silver Spoon Award for Best Server because he goes above and beyond what is expected, and he is happy to go that extra mile when it comes to keeping his customers satisfied. Popular Fall Flavors in Cocktail Form

Fall is here, and along with the season comes rich colors, crisp weather, and tasty fall flavors. We feature a few of those flavors within some of the signature cocktails at our Lake of the Ozarks fine dining restaurant. This season, when you come to JB Hook's for a savory lunch or dinner, or maybe for our incredible Happy Hour, think about giving one of these delicious fall-flavored drinks a try. 

Autumn is apple-picking season. Fresh-baked apples pies, hot apple cider, and scrumptious caramel apples are all perfect flavors to enjoy on a chilly day. There are lots of different varieties of apples, but the tart taste of a green apple is the flavor that makes our Apple-Tini taste so great.   

Apple-Tini - Sour Apple Vodka & Sour Apple Pucker

We mentioned caramel apples above as one of the treats that people look forward to this season. Butterscotch is a very similar flavor to caramel, and this particular martini uses it to create an amazing cocktail.  

Creme Brulee Martini - Vanilla Vodka, Butterscotch Schnapps, Half & Half, & Irish Cream

Pomegranate season begins in the fall. It's incredible how a bunch of small seeds (a pomegranate can have anywhere from 200-1400 seeds) can offer such big, wonderful flavor. It gives these drinks a unique and delicious taste.  

Pomegranate Martini - Pomegranate Liqueur, Citrus Vodka, Triple Sec, cranberry juice, & fresh lime

Pomegranate Margarita - Pomegranate Liqueur, Tequila, Triple Sec, Sweet & Sour, & orange juice

This particular berry is most often eaten at Thanksgiving. You don't have to wait until November to get this amazing flavor. Just order one of these from the bar. 

Hooked Perfect Cosmo - Absolute Citron, Cointreau, fresh lime, & cranberry juice

You can order any of these drinks to pair with your meal in the dining room, or you can enjoy them in the bar, where we host the best Happy Hour at the Lake of the Ozarks every Sunday-Friday, with half-price appetizers and wonderful drink specials. Hook's Famous Crunchy Fingers
Delicate, flaky, sustainable Pacific white fish, rolled in frosted flakes, fried to a golden brown, drizzled in honey, and served with raspberry chipotle sauce. 

French Dip Sliders
Delicious, thinly sliced, slow-roasted beef cooked to perfection stacked between toasted Hawaiian buns, topped with Swiss cheese, and served with a side of Au Jus. 

Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos
Fresh jalapenos stuffed with smoked tomato basil cream cheese and wrapped in Applewood smoked bacon. 

Ahi Tuna Tacos
Fresh tuna spiced and served in a wonton shell with avocado salsa, tai chili sauce, and wasabi cream cheese. 

We also feature some incredibly entertaining live music in the bar area most evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm. Sit back, relax, enjoy a cocktail, and take in the breathtaking 14-mile panoramic view from JB Hook's. Now that sounds like a pretty amazing way to enjoy the arrival of fall!

Why the Lake of the Ozarks is Amazing in Autumn

Many people only think of the lake area as a place to be between Labor Day and Memorial Day. Those people are missing out on many amazing months when there are still lots of things to do, see, and enjoy. The gorgeous view from our Lake of the Ozarks fine dining restaurant as the leaves begin to change color is one of those things. Read on to find out what else you can experience when you are in the lake area in the fall.

Breathtaking Scenery
We already mentioned the view from JB Hook's, but it's worth mentioning again! Our 14-mile panoramic view of the lake allows you to take in lots of gorgeous fall colors, as well as that relaxing lake. Often the weather even remains nice enough to sit outside on our covered patio, but if it's not, the floor-to-ceiling windows in the restaurant don't inhibit the view at all. There are many scenic parks with trails to wander all around the lake area, and even a leisurely drive among the trees is a sight everyone should have the pleasure of seeing.   

Live Music
Most evenings in our bar area you can enjoy the entertaining sounds of some of the best live music at the Lake of the Ozarks from 5:30-8:30 pm. We keep an updated calendar of everyone scheduled to play on the home page of our website, so you can always take a look and plan which nights you absolutely can't miss! Check back occasionally for additions, too.

Fewer People
It can get a little crowded all over the lake area during the summer. If you prefer a leisurely visit without all the crowds, then autumn is the perfect time for you to be at the Lake of the Ozarks. Many of the seasonal attractions are still open for business, plus the weather is still nice enough to let you get outside and enjoy nature. When the fall chill gets to you, head on over to our Lake of the Ozarks restaurant for a hot and delicious meal to warm you up!

Pasta - the Perfect Dish for a Chilly Evening

We are still technically in the summer season, but the nights are already getting colder, and fall is only a couple of weeks away. This has everyone at our Lake of the Ozarks fine dining restaurant yearning for filling comfort foods to bring about a scrumptious inner warmth. One food that does just that is pasta, and here at JB Hook's, we've got some amazing pasta dishes especially for you. 

A delicious bowl full of hot, steaming pasta, covered in a savory sauce, accompanied by fresh, hearty ingredients such as mushrooms, asparagus, beef tips, and more is enough to make anyone feel all warm and cozy inside. Pasta is an incredible comfort food that really hits the spot, plus the carbohydrates in it give you a slow release of energy to keep you going all day long. 

Pasta Fun Facts
Those things you already know if you've ever had the joy of eating pasta. Here are a few fun facts that you may not have heard before.  

  • One reason that eating pasta is so comforting is because it actually makes you feel happier when you eat it! This is because the carbohydrates found in pasta increase the body's production of serotonin, which scientists believe triggers feelings of happiness in a person.

  • October is designated as pasta month. Someone obviously agrees with us that pasta is the perfect food to enjoy during the chillier fall season. (We don't want to wait for October though, we're ready to eat it now!)

  • While pasta is generally thought of as an Italian food, China is actually the country on record as having eaten pasta first, as early as 5,000 B.C.

  • History states that Marco Polo introduced pasta to Italy in the 12th century, but that cannot be the case. Historical records show that they had already been making their own pasta long before he came back with it.

  • Thomas Jefferson gets the credit for bringing pasta to the United States. He fell in love with a dish that he tasted while he was in Naples serving as the U.S. Ambassador to France. He brought a pasta-making machine back with him when he came home and served it to his guests.

  • The earliest reference to a pasta maker comes from Greek mythology. It tells a story of Hephaestus, the "blacksmith" to the gods, inventing a device that made strings of dough.

  • The first American pasta factory had nothing to do with China, Italy, or Greek mythology. It was opened in Brooklyn, New York in 1848 by a man from France, Antoine Zerega.

Black 'N Bleu
Beef tenderloin tips blackened and served over fettuccine topped with bleu cheese crumbles.

Capellini Tutto Mare

Shrimp, clams, crab, scallops, mussels and mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce.

Sauteed onion, pepper, mushroom and asparagus, tossed over penne pasta in a rose sauce.
