Looking For Valentine's Day Plans at the Lake of the Ozarks? We Can Help!

It's less than a month away from Valentine's Day, and one of the most romantic things that you can do for someone is to plan ahead for celebrating together in a special way. Last minute plans work if you can get away with them, but why risk it? JB Hook's has a few reasons why you should bring your special someone to the lake, including our special romantic dinner at the Lake of the Ozarks.

A Wintry Lake Vacation
The lake area is an exciting place to visit in the summer, but winter here has its own charms too. Possibly the best thing about taking a winter vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks is the fact that you will enjoy a much slower, more relaxed pace than what is available in the midst of the town's busiest season. Many of the area hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals offer better rates too. Even if you live in town, renting a place to spend Valentine's Evening could make for an incredibly romantic stay-cation.

A Romantic Dinner

Even though it's cold outside, our Lake of the Ozarks fine dining restaurant allows you to enjoy the best part about our wonderful area, the actual lake itself, while remaining warm and comfortable indoors. Every seat at JB Hook's allows you to marvel at our breathtaking, 14-mile panoramic view of the water.

Just imagine overlooking that mesmerizing view while sharing a candlelit dinner for two. To make Valentine's Day dinner with us even more special, we are offering a holiday package to our guests which includes:

  • Steak and lobster dinner for 2
  • A rose for the lady
  • A chocolate-covered strawberry for each
  • A complimentary glass of champagne per person

Romantic Lake Area Events
Since Valentine's Day happens to fall in the middle of the week this year, you may wish to extend your celebration to last a few days instead of just one. The Sunday before (February 11) Bridal Cave is hosting their annual FREE wedding vow renewals inside the cave for all married couples. If instead of married you are recently engaged, the Sunday after (February 18) is the Lake of the Ozarks Bridal Show at the Lodge of Four Seasons, just a short drive from JB Hook's

After attending either of those romantic events, bring your sweetheart on over to our Lake of the Ozarks steak & seafood restaurant for a delicious meal for two. You may also take advantage of our all-day Sunday Happy Hour in the bar, with incredible drink specials and half-price appetizers. (There's no reason why you can't visit us more than once that week for a bit of tasty romance!)

Reserve Your Table Early
Reservations for special occasions fill up quickly at JB Hook's, so make sure to plan ahead and book your spot for Valentine's Day dinner early. You can give us a call at (573) 365-3255 or make a reservation online through our website. Even if you choose to celebrate your love on a night other than the actual holiday, we will make sure that everything is beautiful, memorable, and delicious for the two of you!

The Intriguing History of JB Hook's

January is a time to look ahead to a brand new year full of possibilities. It's also a wonderful time to take a look back at the things that have happened to get you where you are right now. We are very excited about the coming months for our Lake of the Ozarks steak and seafood restaurant, and we decided to take a look back of our own. JB Hook's has a very interesting history.

Name Changes
The JB Hook's that you know today has seen quite a few changes happen all around the lake area, and we've also gone through many changes of our own. When this restaurant opened, it was originally called Captain Hook's. Later, that named was changed to Krazo's.

John LaFata and Bruce Elliott reopened the restaurant under its current name of JB Hook's in February of 1995. Next month we'll be celebrating our 23rd year in business, nearly a quarter of a century!

A Tragic Fire
It was a very exciting time, but unfortunately a few months in, there was a huge problem. Just 3 months after JB Hook's opened up, a fire blazed through the restaurant and destroyed much of the building. We had to miss an entire Lake of the Ozarks summer season to rebuild. Once fall rolled around, though, we were back! The doors reopened again in September of 1995 with a gorgeous new look.

A New Look
This new version of the original building has undergone several architectural changes and additions since that first year. The Sunset Room and lower kitchen just off of the bar area were added, allowing extra room to begin offering a lunch menu.

Our Sunset Room is enclosed within three walls of glass, offering an uninterrupted and truly breathtaking view of the gorgeous lake. The fourth wall contains an abalone-tiled fireplace. Today this wonderful room is used to serve lunch and appetizers, and it is also available to rent for group functions and private events.

There was once a dock with a tram leading to our Lake of the Ozarks lake view restaurant so that guests could reach us by water. Due to the major growth that the lake has gone through over the years and the increased water traffic, that dock and tram sadly had to be done away with. On the bright side, with the construction of the toll bridge in the late 1990's, Shawnee Bend area residents were once again able to get to us without the long drive.

Still Going Strong
Nowadays, everyone's favorite Lake of the Ozarks fine dining restaurant is open year-round, 7 days a week. We serve lunch from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, dinner beginning at 5:00 pm, and you can enjoy appetizers and the Shrimp and Oyster Bar all day long. During our incredible Happy Hour, we even offer a large menu of half-price appetizers to enjoy along with some great drink specials in the bar area. No matter where you sit - the Sunset Room, piano bar, main dining room, or outdoor patio - that breathtaking 14-mile panoramic view is within sight.

There have been quite a few changes around here over the years, but one thing that will never change at JB Hook's is the exceptional quality of our delicious food and friendly service. Our goal, as always, is to make sure that all of our wonderful guests get the enjoyable dining experience that they deserve.
