Tips to Help Manage Stress

Right now everyone is feeling a little more stressed than normal. JB Hook's understands the pressure you're under, and we are here to help! When you are stressed, there are several things you can due to help relieve the tension and improve your mood. Read on to learn more!

Exercise

Exercise is an activity that can help reduce stress and improve your mood. Exercise produces endorphins, which is a hormone that can act as a natural painkiller and can help drastically improve your mood. Staying active can also help reduce cortisol, which is a stress-causing hormone.

It's important to stay active, even during times when there aren't a lot of places to go. Gyms may be closed, but there are a lot of other ways to stay active and get exercise. Try doing at-home workout videos, learn new yoga poses to try each morning, take a walk with your pets, use your stairs at home as your own stair master... There are a lot of different ways to get active even when you feel cooped up at home.

Sleep

Keeping a regular sleep schedule is also important in managing stress. Losing even one hour of sleep during the week can throw off your schedule and make it harder to focus during the day. If you feel sluggish and exhausted all day, then it can be very difficult to manage the stress that daily life is throwing at you.

It's a good idea to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night to make sure your body and brain are well-rested enough to handle the day and stay on top of stress.

Hydration

Did you know that a large portion of our bodies is made up of water? It's important to stay hydrated throughout the day to keep your body operating at its best and handling stress in a healthy way. There is a lot of debate about how much water we should drink every day, but a good baseline is this: Drink half of your body weight in ounces every day. For example, if you weigh 120 pounds, then you should drink at least 60 ounces of water every day.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 is a substance that can be found in fatty fish like salmon. It has anti-inflammatory properties that are believed to counteract hormones caused by stress. Even a small amount of salmon contains a large amount of omega-3's, so it doesn't take a lot to get an amount that could potentially help your body handle stress.
