Did You Know...
Not only is lobster a delicious dinner option, but there are quite a few interesting facts about this ocean-dwelling crustacean that you may not know about. We've dug up 10 fun facts about lobster that will make for some compelling conversation with the other dinner guests when you come into JB Hook's to celebrate National Lobster Day this Saturday!

#1 - Although considered a delicacy today, lobster was once so plentiful that it was regularly eaten by paupers. So often, in fact, that they had enough to become sick of it! They even fed lobster to their livestock because there was so much of it.

#2 - Lobsters actually enjoy eating much of the same seafood that we eat, like clams, crabs, and occasionally even other lobsters!

#3 - This particular crustacean can be found in many different colors besides the red we are used to. Some are blue, blue-green, yellow, and others are even two-toned. They turn red once they are cooked.

#4 - A lobster's nervous system is similar to that of grasshoppers and ants, so that is why you will sometimes hear people refer to them as "bugs."

#5 - While most lobsters live up to an estimated 45-50 years, the lifespan of some lobsters can be as long as 100 years.

#6 - In an emergency, a lobster can detach a leg, claw, or antennae. You might never realize it happened to one though because they can actually regenerate their limbs.

#7 - The large claw of a lobster is known as the crusher claw because it is used to break up the shells of their prey. The other cutter claw is what they use for tearing.

#8 - Lobster is a wonderful source of protein and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. If you skip the butter, a 3-1/2 ounce serving is only about 96 calories and around 2 grams of fat. (But the butter makes is so very good! Go ahead and splurge a little.)

#9 - A very resourceful professor from the University of Maine used lobster shells to create a golf ball core that is biodegradable.

#10 - The very best lobster at the Lake of the Ozarks comes out of the kitchen at JB Hook's! (You'll know this is a fact once you give it a taste!
