History of Whisk(e)y Day The first International Whisk(e)y Day was in 2009 in the northern Netherlands as part of the Whiskey Day Festival. March 27th was selected as the date because it is the birthday of a famous author who wrote several books about both whisky and beer. If you're wondering what the purpose of the "e" in parentheses is, it's to support countries that spell the famous beverage "whiskey" instead of "whisky".
