JB Hook's Wine & Seafood Pairings
Wine pairing is an important part of any meal. At the best seafood restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, we have an expansive selection of wine to ensure you have the perfect pairing for your meal. To help make your selection a little bit easier for the next time you dine at Lake of the Ozarks' best seafood restaurant, here are a few of our popular dishes and wines that complement them.
Salmon Du Jour
Our Salmon Du Jour is the chef's daily signature creation that's prepared with the finest quality ingredients. Pinot Noir stands up to the richness of the salmon while still being light and bright enough to be paired with fish.
Oysters
At JB Hook's, we serve East Coast oysters with cocktail sauce and horseradish. While there's very little out there that doesn't taste great with a few bubbles, oysters in particularly pair well with champagne. The textural contrast of the bubbles to the smooth, velvety texture of the oysters is what makes this the perfect pairing.
Hook's Stuffed Lobster Tail
Our signature one pound lobster tail stuffed with King crab & Panko bread crumbs, oven-broiled to perfection finished with Dayboat sea scallops & shrimp in a classic Scampi sauce. Lobster is one of the most decadent seafood dishes, and chardonnay is an excellent choice to be served with it. It's best to choose a chardonnay that has only light touches of fruit and oak. Dry, crisp white wines, such as Sauvignon Blanc, can also go well with lobster dishes.
Seared Ahi Tuna
Fresh ahi tuna encrusted with white and black sesame seeds lightly seared, thinly sliced, chilled and served with wasabi and Red Thai Chili sauce. Because ahi tuna is so substantial, it can pair well with a medium-bodied red like Merlot.
Alaskan King Crab Legs
At JB Hook's, our King crab legs are steamed in spices and served with drawn butter. Since the flavor of the crab is mild, you'll want to choose a wine that does not overpower the taste. Chardonnay, Dry Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc are all good choices when it comes to pairing wine with crab.
Garlic Shrimp
Our garlic shrimp is sauteed in butter, garlic, white wine and finished off with a hint of lemon. Sauvignon Blanc pairs excellently with garlic, so that's the perfect place to start when wanting to pair this dish with the perfect wine. However, when pairing our other shrimp dishes, look for a light white wine with citrus notes. Shrimp has a delicate flavor that you do not want to over power.
Pairing your wine with seafood isn't a difficult task. The key is to think in terms of weight and substance. A light shellfish like shrimp, go best with equally delicate light white wines while a more meaty fish, such as tuna or salmon, go well with a more substantial wine. Remember to keep these tips in mind the next time you visit JB Hook's. Let us make your next meal your best meal and visit your favorite fine dining restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks today!
