There are many delicious cocktails available from the bar at our Lake of the Ozarks fine dining restaurant , and among these are a few different versions of the classic Moscow Mule. This popular drink has been around for quite a while, and we decided to look into its interesting history, and here is what we found out. The American Mule? Although most commonly known as the "Moscow" Mule, this tasty cocktail did not originate in Russia. As a matter of fact, it was created right here in the United States, and it most likely got its name due to Russia often being associated with its main ingredient - vodka. John G. Martin of G.F. Heublien Brothers out of Hartford, Connecticut decided to buy the Smirnoff vodka company in 1939. Much to his despair, he soon found out that Americans were not terribly fond of vodka, making it an extremely difficult product to sell.
